Welcome to the fell running section. If you have an aversion to tarmac and the prospect of scrambling up steep-sided hills and careering down the other side on paths mainly populated by nimble-footed sheep, come rain, shine or snow sounds like fun, then fell running is for you.
Holmfirth Harriers has a long and glorious history of running on the fells, with recent individual achievements including England international call-ups for Katie Walshaw, British & English V40 Championship wins for Helen Haigh (nee Berry), along with Yorkshire County call-ups for Katie, Helen, Ruby Sykes & Chris Law, whilst in this pandemic-affected year, we also had a successful Bob Graham Round completion, with Clark Hind comfortably breaking the 24 hour cut-off.
On the team front we enter the British/FRA relays and the Hodgson Brothers Mountain Relay, whilst at the Calderdale Way Relay, the Ladies won in 2019 and are regularly in the top 3.
As a club, we organise a number of races throughout the year – the Ian Roberts Memorial in early March is often held in wintry conditions which adds to the enjoyment (apparently), whilst West Nab in late spring has regularly been selected as an English Junior Championship event, so is incredibly busy. The super-tough Holme Moss race in July has been selected as an English Senior Championship counter on a couple of occasions, bringing the best in the country to the Holme Valley, whilst the short, sharp Denis Stitt Memorial is a cracking evening race held in early August, with prizes, beer & chilli galore!
So, if that’s whetted your appetite or just if you’ve anything of interest for this section of the site e-mail it in to Phil.
